Growing Up

OK, so Joey starting preschool was much more difficult on me than it was on her. She asked me this morning when she woke up and we were discussing going to school if I was going to stay with her in her class. I told her I couldn't but that I would come back to pick her up. She said, "Oh, I will miss you, Mommy!" I almost lost it then. I thought for sure when she got the the classroom she would cling to me crying and asking me to not leave her (she did this each session of dance class!). But when we arrived, she found a seat at a table filled with puzzles and other little girls, kissed me goodbye and that was that. No tears, no pleading, no "miss yous". I, on the other had, walked out the door of the classroom and the tears began immediately. They didn't stop when I reached the car. They didn't stop when I kissed Joel goodbye, they didn't stop when I strapped Ian in the car. When I picked her up an hour later, she ran to me and, with a huge smile on her face, yelled "My first day of school is over!". When they spotted their parents, other children began crying immediately. Joey gave her new teachers a hug and told them she would come back for the second day of school. She amazes me!

Shepherd Boy

I LOVE this picture of Ian. This is from our trip to the state fair. We were in the FFA baby farm animals barn and we let him roam around. He was all about the sheep. I kept trying to take him to see the other baby animals, but he kept going back to the sheep and burying his hand deep in their wool. They could've cared less. He would've stayed there all day if we let him.

Chubby Face

My mamma's chubby, my daddy's chubby, even my dog is chubby. One day, Mamma said, Chubby, why don't you try smilin for me. I said, OK Mamma!" Then we would try to smile while our cheeks were pushed together. It was hilarious to us! Anyway, I have kept the tradition going by teaching it to Joey. This is a picture of her smiling as Chubby. The best part is when she says "even my dog's chubby." She says it with a real thick southern accent. It comes out daowwg. Needless to say, we were rolling! She is so fun!

Illinois State Fair

Joey thought she looked like Mary (I guess she thought it looked more like a halo than a crown) and is looking appropriately pious with her prayer hands. Ian, on the other hand, just looks completely mortified that his parents would make him wear this! We had a great day. The kids got to experience all of the usual fair offerings including a petting zoo, a giant slide, and of course, the butter cow.
